Decluttering Tips
Start with a Strategy
One of the biggest mistakes I see sellers make is diving into “decluttering” without a real plan. What ends up happening? They reorganize instead of removing!
Here’s the truth: organized clutter is still clutter.
Start simple — one room or one small area at a time. Focusing on smaller spaces keeps you from getting overwhelmed and gives you that instant motivation boost when you see the results.
Key Areas to Focus On
First impressions are everything. When buyers walk in, they immediately form an opinion, often within seconds!
If they see clutter on the floor or countertops, it can instantly distract from the home’s best features. Keep floors clear of shoes, toys, and clothes. Then, turn your attention to the counters, especially in the kitchen.
Buyers want to see the space, so aim to have at least 50% of your countertops clear. Tuck appliances away in cabinets or your pantry. It helps the room feel bigger and more open.
The Emotional Side of Decluttering
Decluttering can be emotional, and that’s okay! You’re not throwing away memories; you’re simply creating space for your next chapter.
Starting early helps prevent stress once your home hits the market. And as you go, you’ll likely feel lighter, calmer, and more motivated to keep going. Confidence in your decision-making is key!
Why should you declutter?
Because it adds value. Decluttering is one of the simplest and most affordable ways to make your home shine in photos, showings, and open houses. It helps buyers focus on the home itself, not what’s in it.
My Challenge to you!
Whether you’re selling your home or just want a fresh, peaceful space, start today. Create a plan, take it one area at a time, and make it part of your lifestyle.
Your future self (and your next buyer!) will thank you.
If you’re thinking about selling and want guidance on how to get your home market-ready, I’d love to help you build your strategy from start to sold!
